March has come and gone and it's time to chat with y'all about the books I read this month! March was really busy for me due to moving houses. Normally I can read a lot during Spring Break, but that wasn't the case this year. I still managed to read 6 books this month and really enjoyed all but one. Let's get started so I can share these amazing reads with y'all!

I was so excited when I found out that Jill Santopolo had a new book coming out. I absolutely LOVED her debut novel, The Light We Lost. I liked this one just okay. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. In fact, I'm struggling to even remember what it's about. I remember it dealt with a daughter and father relationship and she fell in love with someone other than her childhood boyfriend, but that's all I'm remembering about it. Clearly it wasn't a memorable one for me! I overall enjoyed it though and I recommend it. Just don't go in thinking it's going to be as good as The Light We Lost or you'll be disappointed!

RATING: 3 STARS

I knew better than to read this book, but I did it anyways. You know how you keep hearing about a book and everyone is raving about how good it is? That was this book. It sounded like something I would not be interested in, but so many people kept recommending it to me, so I gave it a go.

And I didn't like it. At all.

I know I'm in the minority with this one and I so hope you have better luck with it than I did. No Exit is the exact kind of thriller I don't like. It's set in one place the entire book and the characters can't escape due to a snow storm. I don't know what it is, but I'm not fan of that type of plot. So this one didn't work for me. If you don't have a problem with a one place, characters stuck setting, give this one a go!

RATING: 2 STARS

I was thrilled to receive an ARC of Hannah Mary McKinnon's newest book, Her Secret Son. Y'all know my favorite book of 2018 was The Neighbors...seriously y'all: READ IT! Her upcoming book comes out in May and it's really good! It's about a man whose girlfriend of 5 years dies and leaves him with her son who he considers his own son. Along the way, he realizes that his girlfriend had many secrets and he sets out to find the truth.

RATING: 4 STARS

When I got moved into the house, I was able to sit down and start our March book for #lalalifebookclub, which was Peter Swanson's newest book Before She Met Him. Peter Swanson is my favorite thriller write. I've read all his books (except The Clock Heart one) and he is simply amazing. His latest book is no exception. Y'all, I devoured this thriller. It might be my new favorite by him. It's that good. I highly highly recommend this one!

Rating: 5 STARS

I also read an ARC of The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez. This is another one that everyone has been raving about. Y'all know I'm forever on the hunt for a good romance, so I was excited about this book. I really really liked it. There were parts of it that I didn't love, but I thought it was an engaging and cute romance with a heavier theme. Highly recommend! It comes out in June. :)

Rating: 4 STARS

I also read RS Grey's newest book, Make Me bad. RS Grey is a romance writer that I love. She write funny love stories that always make quick reads, which is something I needed with all the moving this month. While Make Me Bad wasn't my favorite by a long shot, I still enjoyed it. Bonus: her books are free on Kindle Unlimited. My favorites are Anything You Can Do and Not So Nice Guy!

Rating: 3.5 STARS

I'd love to hear from y'all! What did you read this month?

Hi friends! If you're keeping up with my house construction posts, you may have noticed that I skipped last week's update-week 23. That's because there wasn't one thing to post. Nothing happened that week. *sigh* We are so incredibly close right now and it's become the slowest part of the entire process. We had a lot of progress this week compared to the previous week and if the countertops go in on Tuesday like the granite guy assures me they will, then hopefully this time next week I will be moving in. Hopefully!

Let's look back at my house construction to do list from two weeks ago:

*carpet bonus room
*install cabinets
*finish plumbing
*touch up paint
*finish electrical (lights above vanity mirrors)
*install countertops

The plumbing and electrical won't be finished until the countertops are in, but my contractor says everything should be finished up next week. Y'all don't know how much I hope that's true. I am so tired of all my stuff packed up and store away. I can't find anything I need! I'm ready to have everything in its place and be settled!

Here's some pictures from week 24 of my house construction process:

I purchased my appliances back during the Black Friday sales and Lowes held them for me until they were ready to be installed. They were delivered yesterday, which was so exciting! You can read all about which appliances I chose here

They got the kitchen cabinets installed on Monday. I really like them. After seeing them in the house, I do wish I had went with the extra white paint color instead of "brownstone white" I thought extra white would have been too neon white, but I actually think it would have matched the wall and door color better. The cabinets look a bit creamer than I wanted, but I don't dislike it enough to change it. I think it'll look good when I get everything out and decorate. :)

The glass doors are in the wrong place and have to be moved. They should be on the far right.

I just love the refrigerator! I had a side by side in my first house and my mom has a side by side right now, and I quickly learned that I was not a fan of that style! I much prefer the freezer on the bottom.

The washer and dryer! I have a cabinet guy coming by next week to look at this room and see about cabinets. I want a built in around the washer and dryer to hide the back because it's very visible with the door being right beside it. I also want cabinets put in above it.

The stove <3

And one more look at the refrigerator. They can't install the dishwasher until the countertops are in and the plumbing is done. I'm excited to see it though! :)

Okay, I'm hoping for one more week of house construction posts, y'all! One more week! Everything is coming together and aside from cabinets, everything that still needs to be done is minor. In my eyes anyways LOL Cabinets were suppose to go in on Friday, but they backed it up to Monday, so fingers crossed that it happens early next week. They got the stairs done, water connected to the house, the garage door installed, breakfast nook bench seating done, and the carpet put in in the upstairs bedrooms.

They still have to:

*carpet bonus room
*install cabinets
*finish plumbing
*touch up paint
*finish electrical (lights above vanity mirrors)

Other than that, we are good to go! Here's what the twenty-second week of my house construction process looked like:

Monday
The walkway would be poured the next day, so I had to mark off where I wanted it.

The hot water heater was delivered.

And also the toilets

They started staining the pieces for the stairs.

They got the transom in. Isn't it so pretty? I just love it!

Tuesday

They installed this vanity for the half bath and got the water connected! For the master bath and upstairs bath, the cabinet guy is making the vanity, but for this little half bath I just bought one at Lowes.

Toilets are in!

Faucets are in, but not working yet. The plumber will connect everything when the cabinets are installed.

Hot water heater is installed.

Walkway is poured.

Wednesday
Stairs are starting.

Thursday
Stairs complete!

They added a bench seat for my breakfast nook and I just LOVE it!

The garage door is installed!

It was a VERY successful week and I am BEYOND ready to move in! :) :)

Friends, I have such exciting news today! If you follow my reading adventures, you'll know my favorite book of 2018 was Hannah Mary McKinnon's book, The Neighbors.

Out of almost 100 books that I read in 2018, this one takes the cake! You can read about my favorite books from last year here.

I am so excited about Hannah's upcoming book, Her Secret Son.

Here's the synopsis:

How far would you go to protect the ones you love…when they may not be yours to protect?

When Josh’s longtime partner, Grace, dies in a tragic accident, he is left with a mess of grief—and full custody of her seven-year-old son, Logan. While not his biological father, Josh has been a dad to Logan in every way that counts, and with Grace gone, Logan needs him more than ever.

Wanting to do right by Logan, Josh begins the process of becoming his legal guardian—something that seems suddenly urgent, though Grace always brushed it off as an unnecessary formality. But now, as Josh struggles to find the paperwork associated with Logan’s birth, he begins to wonder whether there were more troubling reasons for Grace’s reluctance to make their family official.
As he digs deeper into the past of the woman he loved, Josh soon finds that there are many dark secrets to uncover, and that the truth about where Logan came from is much more sinister than he could have imagined…
Tightly paced and brimming with tension, Her Secret Son is a heartbreakingly honest portrait of a family on the edge of disaster and a father desperate to hold on to the boy who changed his life.

You can add it to your Goodreads TBR here. And while you're there, add me as a friend!
There's even a book trailer that is soooo good!

I cannot wait for May 28th! Be sure and check out (and read!) Hannah Mary McKinnon's other book The Neighbors and then come chat with me about that explosive ending. I promise you-you have never read an ending like this one!
