August is by far the busiest month in the life of a teacher, but I tried my best to escape with a good book. I managed to read 6 books, but sadly almost all of them weren't that great. Only one completely wowed me.....
And I'm starting off with that one! The Light We Lost was unbelievable! I could not put this one down and holy moly that ending! You must pick this one up! It deserves all the hype that is surrounding it right now. Love, love, love

Next up is the August pick for the #lalalifebookclub. I was so excited about this one. I have loved every other Mary Kubica book, but this one was just a disappointment. It's a slllllllow burn mystery and I'm perfectly fine with those types of books as long as the ending is a thrill. It's a complete let down and I am so disappointed in this book. :(

I've read two other books by Katie Cotugno and I really enjoyed them, but I had never heard of this one until I saw BooksandLala on Youtube. She raved about it so I decided to try it out. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. It was just an okay read that I will probably forget about in a few months. It was nothing special.

Ugh. It was not my month for thrillers. I found this one at Target and I had heard of several people reading it and really liking it, so I decided to pick it up. I realllllllly didn't like it. It's about a girl whose boyfriend just leaves one day and she spends the entire book trying to find him. It's got a twist that was mildly entertaining, but I just found the main character completely annoying and I guessed the twist halfway through, so it wasn't a great read for me.

Since I had been having bad luck with reading, I decided to go to my sure fire genre: YA contemporary. Someone recommended this one to me on Instagram and I really liked it. It's a forgettable book, so I'm not in love with it, but it provided a nice escape for a few days.

This one has been on my radar for the longest, so I was thrilled to get an ARC from the publisher. It's about three cheerleaders who die in a car crash and the book follows several different characters as they cope with the aftermath. It follows the mother of the boy who caused the crash, a cheerleader who was best friends with the other three girls who died, and a substitute teacher. I really loved this one. At times it dragged, but then something would happen that would make something else make sense and made you want to keep reading! I would definitely recommend this one.

I DNF'ed this one, so I'm not counting it towards my total for the month, but I did want to share my thoughts on this one. I've read Ruth Ware's other two books, so I realize her writing isn't for everyone, but I liked her other work. I just did not like this one at all. I read until around page 150 and NOTHING happened! I just couldn't get into it. Anyone else have this problem??
So that was my not so fab reading recap for August. I'd love to hear what you read!Follow me on Goodreads and Instagram. To see my other reading recaps from previous months, click here! :)
